MATT CORBY EDITION: TOP 3 MEANINGFUL SONGS!

Just look at that smile, those eyes, that hair... But SNAP OUT OF IT this is not a pervert session about Australia's heartthrob Matt Corby!!

We first saw Matt Corby when he walked into his audition for the fifth season Australian Idol and sung a stunning rendition of "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder in 2007. What a beautiful day that was! For the very first time Australia saw what he had to offer and boy did we gasp in awe of how incredible and unique his voice was. He later confessed that partaking in the show was a "Big Fucking Mistake," but of course you can't take back the past only create your future. Now with over 30 songs amongst four Albums and EP's we can honestly say he creates the most relaxing and inspirational music.

Have you ever wondered the meaning behind these beautiful creations? Well if you have then continue to read as we go through Matt Corby's Top 5 Meaningful tunes !

1. Brother - 2011 - Probably one of the most famous of Corby's songs Brother is a telling tale about his personal experiences of betrayal, lust and love. When he was asked by Triple J radio station to describe the meaning behind this song, Corby replied: "It came from a little sort of quarrel I had with a really close friend this year. It's a pretty dark time for me, I think I really just wasn't being myself. Me and one of my really good mates fell out, and it was because of something really stupid I did." Of course rumours of Corby's actions had been circling for a while that he had in fact been caught having an affair with his friends girlfriend. But of course thats all Chinese whispers and we won't ever know the truth, but we do know that he wrote "Brother" to tell a lesson. In an interview with SongFacts Corby confessed "it's pretty low in the scale but it's your responsibility to try and help someone if you can. That's where it came from. It was more of a personal story that I tried to make into a more overarching concept in a way." Let me just tell you I definitely want to be a better person have to listening to his voice power through 3 minutes of intense lyrics.

2. Monday - Tulleric - 2016 - Doesn't the thought of it being Monday give you the absolute chills? No one likes Monday which was why it was an absolute surprise when Corby released Monday in his latest album Tulleric. However the song conveys a deeper meaning then the first working day of the week. Corby's Monday represents how Corby came to terms with failure after he pulled an unheard album for personal reasons. Corby's Monday is a raw tune that uses incredible harmonies in comparison with a lack of instrumentation which is believed by many to be a reflection of Corby allowing himself to trust in his music again after failing his previous album. The lyrics take the listener through an average day of Corby trying to start fresh as Monday is the symbolism for a new week. Corby tries to find his focus again and at the click of the start button, I'll admit i'm focused.

3. Resolution - Resolution 2013 - This track is incredibly meaningful as Corby wrote this tune when he was living in LA back in early 2013. Corby spent his time in LA writing a debut album which he decided to pull (bringing us to the tune of MONDAY). Corby had experienced isolation in the City of Angels before writing Resolution, Corby said "I had a weird, isolating experience in LA leading up to that moment...LA is an intense city. I was probably a bit too sensitive. I didn't have any friends so I was keeping pretty low key. I just whipped myself up into a bit of an emotional frenzy. You know when you can just be alone and all of a sudden everything's different? You're just depressed and it's like, 'Whoa! What the hell is going on?' Out of that moment, I was questioning everything. 'Why am I so anxious? What's my problem here?' I guess the song came out of that." During Corby's isolation period he had written Resolution which is about letting go of unnecessary things in your life and instead embrace the love of those closest to you, because essentially without them, without their love, theres nothing. Resolution comprises of suggestive poetry but still remains to add a sense of mystery for listeners to figure out for themselves.

These are my favourite most intimate songs that I've heard from Corby, and of course he keeps proving to us that theres more behind his music then the pure sense of entertainment.
