It's been a great year for Splendour in the Grass 2017 hasn't it? We were graced with the presence of Coldplay after not performing at splendour for over 10 years! We danced, we drank, we froze our butts off and drank some more! It was an amazing three days that was had by thousands and thousands of us festival goers.
Unfortunately, I only had the pleasure of attending the Sunday of Splendour, however did that stop me from having the time of my life? NO IT DID NOT! So let me take you on a journey through my eyes (more like my words) of Splendour in the Grass 2017!
Morning 7:25am - Alarm goes off! For a girl festivals are the best but the absolute worst. You think of that amazing outfit, the incredible makeup and of course all the sparkles your body can muster. However what you try to forget is the time and effort it takes in order to get the end result. So first thing was first, Shower off that fake tan that had been on all night! Now that I'm tanner then a body builder its time to curl the hair. Now I'm not the best at curling hair, I usually run the straightener through my hair and thats the end of it, but.... not today! No today I decided to take a crack at the curling situation, and well it was a success! (Yippeee!) 7:55am Now it's time for makeup! But first time to turn on that killer Spotify Splendour in the Grass playlist you've had on repeat for the past week in order to pump you up for the massive day. Fast forward the makeup and then chucking the outfit and well i'll be damned before you know it it's already 10am! Then the friends arrive, you crack open some cold ones and this is when the real party starts! This year we decided we would take the bus from Chinderah to the parklands. Despite it taking almost an hour while the bunch of us were on the verge of breaking the seals it cost us $5 and on top of that we didn't have to do that ridiculous trek from the carpark just to get inside the festival (Tick!) So here we are at SPLENDOUR!!!!
1:00pm
Surprisingly we waited about 5 minutes in line before getting checked at the metal detectors and then getting our bands and then bam we were in! Entering a festival feels like you've just stepped off into a mystical realm filled with all things good and pure like lolly pops and rainbows. Theres boutiques everywhere, hundreds of food trucks, men and women dressed like the world is theirs, glitter, music and to top it off bars filled with booze. But of course wheres that blowup Kanye West face i've been seeing everywhere!? Oh there it is, Of course we had to get photos.
This year the Splendour Art really turned it up a notch! This year festival goers were blessed with exhibits and pieces such as Happy Kanye, Pickle's Funeral Parlour, Optical Oval and the Gateway.
Among other thing Splendour in the Craft returned again this year with activities such as Craft Responsibly, Mend it like Beckham, Put a bling on it and Fake it 'Till you make it. It was definitely an amazing experience this year with such creative forces at work.
1:30pm Now I'm starting to get a little bit...hungry. "Guys! Lets get food" and straight to the Dagwood Dog stand I go! After refuelling it was time to wind down and relax because resident GC gal Amy Shark was on at the GW McLennan Tent. So for the next half hour we just sat and listened to a show stopping performance. I wish I wasn't moderately tipsy for this set so I could tell you more about it, except then it would deserve its own post and we don't have time for that.
2:30pm - 5pm
After Amy Shark's wild performance it was unfortunately time for the thing dreaded most by girls at festivals. The toilets. EEEEEKKKK!!! The lineup was disgusting and the toilet even worse, but lets not reminisce on that because i'll have nightmares....again! Throughout the rest of this time a cheeky dance at Tipi Forest happened, many drinks were drunk, The Smith Street Band, Client Liason, A.B Original we all watched and enjoyed and can I just say how amazing it is sitting amongst thousands at the main stage just chilling, drinking music and listening to incredible tunes?
5pm-midnight
Of course you can't go a Splendour without trying at least 10 of the food trucks...right? Or is that just me? Oops, lets just keep that our little secret. Over the day I think I got around to trying maybe 4-5 different food trucks because all that walking around sure was making me hungry! And what's a festival without your outfit falling to pieces? To my luck my cousin who was staying at the campgrounds supplied me with a backup Tee and a Jacket! (and good thing because It was starting to get cold and I knew I was going to freeze my absolute arse off if I didn't put some more layers on! From then on the night was an absolute breeze, School Boy Q, Thundamentals, Stormzy, Meg Mac and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard were all ticked off my bucklist. Meg Mac took the cake for the best live performance of the night for me. Her voice just as radiant in real life. Safe to say i'll be seeing her at Miami Marketta on the 10th of October. Along with Meg Mac Stormzy was absolutely incredible.... and to finish his tour off in Australia he even chugged a shoey at Sydney's Enmore Theatre.. Legend!
Well safe to say Splendour 2017 was an absolute blast and the bus ride home was a massive wind down ! So excited for next year! If you missed out make sure you grab your best crew and score yourself a ticket!
